Lloyds Bank 9000 Redundancies

Lloyds today confirmed today that it was looking to shed 9000 jobs and reduce it`s branches.  In addition it has to set aside £900 million for PPI compensation.

Not a stellar performance but not entirely unexpected. Perhaps bankers have realised their behaviour has to improve

More Austerity To Come

George Osborne announced at the Tory party conference in Birmingham there are still 4 years of austerity to come for all of us.

It is not exactly the sort of news you expect to hear a few months before an election.  The vast majority of people are feeling pain now, so the prospect of 4 more years of pain is not entirely welcome.


Of  course politicians and quangocrats, senior civil servants and public sector managers are not feeling any pain.  They are doing quite OK. So are bankers, lawyers, accountants etc in the private sector.


The rest of us will have to bear the pain. But that is just life - 14 million people being squeezed produces far more than 10's of thousands. 


Hopefully the pain will be worth it and I look forward to a massive blow out in 2020!

UK Construction Boosted By Housebuilding

House prices have been on the up for several months and in figures just released housebuilding in the UK  has increased at it's fastest rate since November 2003.

The Markit UK Construction PMI report found that for a year and a quarter construction activity has increased. In fact jobs available is increasing at the fastest rate since the survey began in 1997.

The PMI index includes civil engineering and commercial building as well as housebuilding.

So it would seem that the recovery is taking hold on the UK economy as traditionally housebuilding and construction is the slowest to recover.
