Labour Propose Extra Paternity Leave

The labour party have announced a new policy of increasedpaternity leave of up to 4 weeks with the state paying £260 per week paternity pay.

Shadow welfare secretary Rachel Reeves announced the policy today and claimed 'good' businesses would welcome and embrace the new policy.  She quoted several multi billion £ firms who would welcome it including Asda and the National grid.

It follows on from Nick Cleggs additional paternity leave scheme introduced in 2011.  That has however only been taken up by 1% of men.

Business organisations were less sure and worried that it would amount to an extra tax and potentially lead to reduced productivity and growth.
